2012 Residential Check List

What is this form required by Howard County?

Howard County requires a Residential Data Collection Checklist to be completed for any new home built in Howard County. This is to verify that the home is built along with the 2012 IECC Code Standards. On the county government site, there is a flow chart that shows the requirements for all items.


What is needed to verify Compliance?

  1. Energy Code Certificate should be ported on or in the electrical panel box

  2. Air Leakage must be below 3ACH(Air changes Per Hour)

  3. Duct Testing must be below 4cfm per 100sqft of the area served

  4. Max Fenestration or Window Values should be no more than U-Factor and SGHC of 0.35, trade-offs on efficiency will allow for higher values.

  5. HVAC- A Programmable thermostat capable of controlling the HVAC system on a schedule will be installed.

  6. Heat Pump Supplemental Heat- Will need controls in order to keep auxiliary heat from kicking on unless absolutely necessary for defrosting.

  7. Building Cavities will not be used as plenums or supply returns/wall pans

  8. Hot water lines shall have R-3 insulation wrap

  9. All Mechanical Ventilation will have a direct route to outside with a gravity or mechanical damper in place.

  10. HVAC Equipment will be sized properly in accordance with ACCA(Air Conditioning Contractors of America) with either a Manual S or Manual J

  11. Snow melt systems will be in place

  12. Pools and Inground Spas-Heaters will have an on-off switch mounted outside of the heater. Gas-fired heaters will not have a constantly burning pilot light. Heated pools will have a vapor retardant cover.
